Tire changer Safety Tips

Here are some safety tips for using tire changer:

  1. Find a Safe Location: If you get a flat tire, pull over to a safe spot. This could be a parking lot or a wide shoulder on the road. Avoid changing tires on a narrow shoulder or a hill.

  2. Turn on Your Hazard Lights: This will alert other drivers that you're having trouble and make them more likely to see you and slow down.

  3. Use a Jack on Flat Ground: Only use a jack on flat, stable ground. Using a jack on a hill or soft ground can cause the car to fall off the jack and injure you.

  4. Apply the Parking Brake: Even on flat ground, apply the parking brake to prevent the car from rolling.

  5. Use Wheel Wedges: Place wheel wedges under the tires to prevent the car from rolling while you're changing the tire.

  6. Read the Owner's Manual: Your vehicle's owner's manual will have specific instructions for changing a tire on your car.

  7. Don't Go Under the Car: Never go under the car while it's supported only by a jack. If the jack fails, the car could crush you.

  8. Loosen Lug Nuts Before Jacking: Loosen the lug nuts about a quarter to a half of a turn, but don't remove them. This will make it easier to remove them once the car is jacked up.

  9. Jack Up the Car Slowly: Slowly raise the car with the jack until the flat tire is about six inches above the ground.

  10. Replace the Tire: Remove the lug nuts all the way, then pull the tire gently toward you to remove it from the wheel base. Place the spare tire on the lug bolts, then push gently until the lug bolts show through the rim.

  11. Tighten Lug Nuts in a Star Pattern: This ensures even tightness. Don't tighten them all the way yet.

  12. Lower the Car: Lower the car with the jack until it's on the ground but not all the way. Remove the jack and fully tighten the lug nuts.

  13. Check the Tire Pressure: Remember that spare tires are temporary, and they usually require more air pressure than regular tires.

  14. Drive Slowly: Spare tires aren't meant to go very fast or very far. Drive slowly and carefully until you can get a new tire.

  15. Get Professional Help If Needed: If you're unsure about any part of the process, don't hesitate to call for roadside assistance.
